So I just got a call from the security guard in our building saying a package had arrived for me and I needed to go downstairs to pick it up.
I stepped out of the elevator to find my husband...gorgeous as ever...standing there with a bunch of tulips and a cute little note (see photo).
I was so surprised! We don't really celebrate this anniversary because we had two weddings, one for us (read previous post) and then one for the family and friends that we did in August 02.
I like celebrating both dates, but he usually complains that it's too much to remember. =)
I'm very tickled right now. =)
I was getting off a plane in Las Vegas from Hawaii to meet my fiance (who drove from Colorado) to get married.
As soon as we picked up my baggage and my dog we were off to apply for our wedding license.
I remember standing in line to get our marriage license and seeing another line on the other side of the room....just as long. I asked the person behind me what that line was for. "Divorce," he said.
We were rushed through the process of application (which wasn't a big deal because we both knew what we were doing) and within 5 minutes we had our wedding license.
We had both of our dogs in the car (meeting each other for the first time) so a drive-thru wedding was what we were looking for.
It probably comes as no surprise to you...but there are a TON of drive-thru chapels available.
I can't remember the name of the first one we tried, but they were going to charge us a hefty amount of money for a witness.
So we continued on and saw "The Little White Wedding Chapel--Drive thru here".
The side of the building had a covering for the drive-thru area (in the event of rain I guess) and there were wonderful murals of Elvis sitting on clouds painted all over it.
The minister stuck his head out of the building window and asked if we'd like to get married.
"Yes!" =) We were both pretty giddy at this point.
We discussed the issue of a witness being present and he called out his assistant to be a witness for us. They never asked for money, in fact the wedding ceremony was by donation only. There was no set price. (We ended up giving them the amount the first frive-thru demanded of us...simply because they didn't demand it.)
We both got our Mom's on our cell phones, put them on speaker-phone and placed the phones on the dashboard. I set up the video camera on the dashboard as well but all it recorded were the dogs in the back seat getting to know one another.
The ceremony began.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...."
At that moment I realized what I was wearing.
I like to travel comfortably, so I was in jeans, a striped shirt showing my midrift and sunglasses. I looked at my about-to-be-husband and he had sort of dressed up for the occasion. He was wearing khaki slacks and a white collared shirt. I suddenly realized how cool this was.
Every now and then, between vows, a growl came from the back seat. The dogs had already started wrestling with each other.
We could barely contain ourselves.....giggles came out here and there.
We got through the vows and put on the rings.
The kind old minister pronounced us husband and wife, we kissed (while giggling), told our Mom's we loved them, put the phones away, signed the necessary paperwork and kissed again.
"Now, can I recommend a fantastic place for you all to have your wedding dinner?" The minister was so cute.
"No thank you," we said. "We have to head back to Colorado."
"Right now?" he asked.
"Yup."
We thanked the minister again and drove thru.
"So...what are we going to have as our wedding dinner?" I asked, suddenly feeling really hungry.
We turned a corner and there it was....the light reflected on it just right that I could've sworn it was a sign.
Actually it was a sign....a big Burger King sign.
We pulled into the parking lot.
"Do you want me to run in and get food?" my husband asked.
"Hmmm....nah, let's make this our second drive-thru of the day."
And so our wedding dinner consisted of two Whoppers, a chicken sandwich, french fries, a Coke and a Dr. Pepper.
That's what I was doing 6 years ago today. =)
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated shortly after 6 a.m. this morning following a rally.

Hope you have a fantastic birthday!!!
Heard some funny stories about some silly men having a little too much to drink at your house the other night.
LOL!
Wish I could be there to help you celebrate!
Remember the Christmas I was there and we all went out to that club to celebrate your birthday? I still say you were a little tipsy! =)
Love you!
So, my favorite Christmas gifts this year:
My BFF.
My wicked cool bag and kitchen set from Australia Zoo!!!
My brother (arriving Saturday).
My Starbucks gift card. =)
My cool new reflective arm band.
My BFF got to my house at 1 a.m. today.
Oh yeah......
=)
So....my husband and his family are currently at church watching little kids sing and act out the nativity story.
This is something this particular church (and probably every church throughout the U.S.) does every year.
I've been to this Christmas Eve show several times....and unfortunately, I never find it that amusing. It's a bunch of kids singing songs. I don't know any of the kids performing....so what is the point of going?
My husband explains it as "tradition".
He said it's something his family always does on Christmas Eve. They get together and they go to church. It's the one time of year my husband attends church.
While I understand the "tradition" aspect of it....I don't always want to go. So...for the past 2 years, I've politely declined the invitation to attend.
I know it upsets my husband...and I'm sure it probably upsets his mother to a degree....(he ends up being the only "single" body there and then has to "explain" why I'm not with him).
I can't really explain why I'm being so stubborn about not going....I guess because it's not my tradition. I'm part of his family now, but I'm very aware of our differences in "tradition" and am not willing to conform.
Putting myself in his shoes, I would also be upset if he refused to take part in a family past time. Maybe I could compare it to our most recent trip to Hawaii when we went to the Wahiawa Bon Dance.
I tried to teach him the dance moves and wanted nothing more than for him to join in the festivities with me and just completely let go of all self-doubt and enjoy himself....
He got in the circle for about 5 seconds and immediately jumped out. He claims to have tried....but I could see it....he didn't try. He was embarrassed and uncomfortable and just out of his realm.
That's how I feel in church.
I don't like church. I don't like the idea of it. I don't like it being pushed on me.
So I guess it simply comes down to my being selfish...on Christmas Eve...in a time of giving....
Damnit.
I should've gone.
Oh wow....can't wait for this to come out....

Hello King Eric Bana.......=)
As you all know...I got sick last week.
I needed to clear this thing up quickly as my best friend and my little brother will soon be making their way here for the holidays.
So this weekend I turned my phone off and holed myself up in the house with soup, tea and movies.
It was wonderful. =)
I watched the entire trilogy of Pirates and Lord of the Rings....even got a few holiday movies in (Elf and Love Actually).
I did some chores when I felt up to it, but for the most part, I just vegged.
Now....I feel 100% better and ready for my visitors!!!! =)
On another note: I love my husband so much. =) I looked so haggard all weekend (messy hair, swollen nose, red watery eyes, frumpy clothes, etc.)...and he still told me I was beautiful. =)
